Ms Bramwell said that people who want to redesign their gardens can get ideas from a number of places, including landscape design books, magazines and garden designers' websites.

She added that people can also gain inspiration from visiting both public gardens and those belonging to other people.

Last month, the American Society of Landscape Architects 2010 Professional Awards gave an Honor Award to a garden shed that had a metal frame attached to it, which was intertwined with ivy.ADNFCR-2655-ID-800288321-ADNFCR
