Police: Homeowners should hide Xmas presents in garden sheds

To avoid being targeted by thieves this Christmas, people should hide presents in their garden sheds, the police have suggested.
This is part of the advice given by the Isle of Man Constabulary in their recently-launched Christmas crime prevention campaign, isleofman.com reports.
Officers are urging people to keep presents hidden out of view until Christmas day and to make sure they do not leave valuables on display after the gifts have been opened.
"If you 'hide' or store larger items such as bicycles in a garden shed or outbuilding make sure they are very secure and use a good quality padlock and hasp," the guidance states.
The police have also said that, if people are going away for the festive period, they should inform their neighbours so that they can keep an eye on the empty house.
Jamie Simpson recently wrote in a piece on articlebase.com that people can use their garden shed in their Christmas celebrations, by turning them into a Santa's grotto.
