The importance of keeping a garden shed secure has been highlighted after a teenager's BMX was stolen.
Nicholas Palmer, from High Park in Southport, went to his garden shed a few weeks ago only to find that his bike had gone, the Southport Visiter reports.
The BMX had been given to Nicholas, 14, by his grandparents and disabled mum Alison Palmer, who has the brain disorder Chiari malformation.
After the police were contacted, the bike was returned to the Palmers, but it had been badly vandalised.
The bike's Subrosa brand name had been scratched off and the seat, handlebars and chain has been replaced with inferior parts.
Ms Palmer said: "The saga with this bike has been one long nightmare. We are insured but my excess is £200, which I cannot pay."
Last month, the Belfast Telegraph reported that police were advising people to position outdoor lighting so that it illuminates their garden sheds as this can deter thieves.
