People urged to empty garden sheds of chemicals

Residents of a certain part of Australia are being urged to empty their garden sheds of unwanted and out-of-date chemicals.
Parkes Shire Council's Works Depot will be open on Thursday November 25th to collect the substances, the Parkes Champion-Post reports.
The list of accepted chemicals includes items such as paint, pesticides and swimming pool cleaners.
Keen gardeners can also safely dispose of their old weed killers as well as any solvents, paint strippers, bleach and detergents that they keep in their sheds.
Smoke detectors, fluorescent light globes and tubes, old gas bottles and fire extinguishers can also be taken along to the collection site.
Parkes Shire Council is one of 13 councils within the NetWaste region of Australia that is participating in the safe chemical disposal programme.
Earlier this month, a piece on dantesinferno.com claimed that garden sheds are the perfect place in which to store seeds for flowers, plants and vegetables, to ensure they are kept dry.
