Mischief week 'is a worry for garden shed owners'

14:11:20 3rd November 2010

Garden shed owners across the country are currently worrying that their properties will be damaged over the coming days as youngsters get up to no good during 'mischief week'.

Research from Santander recently revealed that 23 per cent of Britons have suffered damage to their home during the week around Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Some six per cent of those surveyed said that they had suffered damage to their garden in the past during this period.

"Not only is there a risk of property and possessions being damaged, but with many people out and about viewing fireworks or trick or treating, burglars see this as a great opportunity to enter people's homes," warned Miguel Sard, chief executive officer for Santander Insurance.

Association of British Insurers spokesman Malcolm Tarling recently suggested that people can deter burglars by fitting the outside of their houses and sheds with lights that are sensitive to movement.ADNFCR-2655-ID-800214190-ADNFCR
