Grape growing for owners of garden sheds

09:10:20 28th October 2010

Growing grapes can be difficult, however tips for growing them in the back garden - something which owners of garden sheds may want to do - have been offered by one expert.

Sarah Raven of the Telegraph has reported tips from Ian Webster, who tends to the grapevines at Chatsworth House.

To grow grapes at home, Mr Webster recommends choosing Black Hamburg, Mrs Pince or Foster's Seedling White varieties - and these should be fed regularly with either a liquid feed or a combination of blood, fish and bone.

Meanwhile, the temperature should be kept as constant as possible, while pollination should be carried out at midday when there is not too much moisture in the air.

Anna Pavord of the Independent recently suggested that October is a good time to move plants, as the ground is still warm and there is plenty of rain.ADNFCR-2655-ID-800198765-ADNFCR
