The Gloucestershire Police are urging residents to take simples steps to keep their garden sheds and homes secure.
Despite crime in the county reducing so far this year, the police force is encouraging local residents to take "common sense" measures, reports the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.
Locking away tools in garden sheds is an important step, while putting an automatic timer in place to make the home appear full when it is empty is another effective measure.
Recommending that any unoccupied rooms in the home have doors and windows locked, Paul Francis, crime prevention officer for the county, also recommends keeping expensive items and gifts out of view.
"Most crime prevention measures are just simple common sense but they can make a world of difference", he states.
Meanwhile, the North Yorkshire Police recently recommended installing external security lights to keep garden sheds secure.
