Owners of garden sheds 'should lay turf now'

11:10:20 25th October 2010

Owners of garden sheds should take the opportunity to lay turf and tend to the lawn now.

Anna Pavord of the Independent has suggested that now is the perfect time to take care of lawns and lay turf - something which owners of garden sheds may wish to do.

Prior to laying the turf, gardeners should ensure any weeds are removed and that the ground is as even as possible.

The turf should then be laid in a staggered fashion, akin to brickwork, to make it secure.

Noting that moss growth becomes more rapid when the growth of grass slows, Ms Pavord suggests treating it now to avoid it dominating the garden.

Meanwhile, steps such as raking up fallen leaves and placing potted plants outside can improve the appearance of the garden during the winter months.

Recently, Kristin Taveira of newsday.com suggested flowers are used to brighten the inside of homes during the cold season.
