Varying success rates with growing vegetables and plants can make gardening more "fun", according to one expert.
Bunny Guinness of the Telegraph comments that the unpredictable British weather combined with the large variety of crops able to grow in it can make gardening more enjoyable.
Noting that one of her favourite aspects of gardening is trying out new varieties of seeds and crops, Ms Guinness says she loves the element of surprise in British gardening.
Gardeners and owners of garden sheds will have seen varying success following the very cold temperatures during the winter and the hot summer.
Ms Guinness notes her main success this year was her cabbages, while her sweetcorn did not yield much at all.
Last month, Emma Townshend of the Guardian suggested growing salad in polystyrene fish boxes in order to keep pests away from it.
