Expert tips: October gardening tasks for owners of garden sheds

10:10:20 4th October 2010

There can be several tasks that gardeners and owners of garden sheds need to complete before the close of October; one expert has offered tips on what needs to be done.

Dan Pearson of the Observer suggests that now is a good time to remove moss or thatch from lawns, either by hiring a machine or vigorous raking.

Meanwhile, fallen leaves should be removed from lawns regularly to ensure they do not impede the growth of the grass.

Grass seeds should be sown this month while the ground is still warm, while ripe fruit should be picked as soon as possible to prevent it from rotting.

For this reason vegetables should also be cleared out; however, perennials can be left without causing any problems, Mr Pearson notes.

Recently, the Essential Garden Guide noted that garden sheds are the ideal place to store gardening tools and supplies, such as seeds.
