Garden sheds are especially appealing to men, according to one publication.

Robert McNeil of the Belfast Telegraph has been looking at what the draw of garden buildings is.

While garden sheds may not offer all the mod cons, he notes that they can be places of escape - and their lack of luxuries can actually be a good thing.

He comments that men enjoy having a simple space to relax in, away from the worries of modern life - and the recession in particular.

"I think perhaps that is why we men love sheds. Deep down, we know they are our last place of refuge. There's no mortgage on a shed. They are places where a man can be free," says Mr McNeil.

Recently, Christopher Howse of the Telegraph also commented that men enjoy having garden sheds as an escape and a place to work on hobbies.
