Choose hardy plants when holidaying

Potted plants can be a cause for concern for those going on holiday, as they cannot survive without frequent watering as well as plants in the ground.
The Telegraph has today been looking at ways to circumvent this problem. Writer Joanne Fortnum suggests the key is in the selection of potted plants, ensuring that those chosen are hardy enough to withstand a period without watering.
Which? Gardening put several plants to the test to see which fared best when deprived of frequent water.
Two - gazania Kiss Series and Pelargonium 'Evka' - actually improved on being left alone for a period of two weeks. Several others, such as ivy, showed no adverse effects at all.
Holidays can also cause concern when it comes to house security; however, a recent report from the South Gloucestershire Police showed that garden sheds can play a key role in keeping your possessions safe.
