A garden shed is one of the focal points included in a new exhibit celebrating the benefits gardening can have on family life.
The Museum of the San Ramon Valley displays 1940s kitchens as well as the garden shed to reflect the increasing trend of families growing their own food - a self-sustaining practice which harks back to wartime, alleviating the pressure on public food supplies.
A spokesperson at the Museum says that growing and storing their own food was how families survived the war.
The garden shed displayed also contains various equipment from that time period, allowing visitors to get a better impression of similarities and differences to modern gardening.
The Telegraph has also reported how best to take care gardens in during the hot summer months, as well as how to keep plants healthy during a holiday.
