Officials give thumbs up to garden shed

A homeowner from Ulverston who erected a lean-to garden shed without securing planning permission has been backed by local officials.
The North-West Evening Mail reported that planning officers from South Lakeland District Council are set give Raymond Oakley clearance retrospectively despite a series of complaints.
Local residents expressed their fears that the garden shed would increase the risk of flooding, while many were concerned that Mr Oakley would use the structure to house pigeons.
According to a report to planning committee members, officials concluded that Mr Oakley's garden shed is not in breach of any regulations.
"Given the scale of the structure relative to the size of the dwelling and garden area it would be difficult to conclude that the shed represents an over-development of the site," the note read.
John Mewett from Screwfix recently said that increasing numbers of people are opting to invest in garden sheds as a way of extending their domestic living space.
