Garden sheds have been around for a while but in recent times people have begun using them for different reasons.
Lloyd Alter, writing on treehugger, said that advances in technology and changing working patterns means many people are able to work from home and use their garden sheds as their office.
The writer, who was reviewing Alex Johnson's book Shedworking, stated that he himself recently delivered a slide presentation from Ontario to recipients in Manhattan from a log cabin, showing how much the world has changed.
"This is a new, exciting world of work. The sheds are an architectural manifestation of a much bigger phenomenon - your job is where you are," Mr Alter added.
One person who spent a lot of time working in his garden shed is Lord Saville.
The Daily Telegraph recently reported that plans sumitted to the local council show the shed is around the same size as a modern one-bedroom flat.
