A group of year eight Opening Mind students at a school in Cambridge have seen their eco-garden development come on leaps and bounds, with a garden shed among the items which are now complete.
Pupils from St Neots Community College are trying to help the institution gain Eco-School status and were recently awarded a grant of £7,000 from Voice Your Choice to help their dream become a reality, newsandcrier.co.uk reported.
The students devoted £6,000 to creating an eco-friendly garden and have so far planted a herb garden, designed a garden shed and worked with district council ranger Mark Hall to build willow fences.
Lorraine Bramley, Opening Minds subject leader, told the newspaper that the project has been a success to date.
"The garden is in the early stages but has inspired students to care for the wildlife and their own environment," she added.
Volunteers at the Marlow branch of Age Concern were recently celebrating after they were able to invest in two new garden sheds.
The Bucks Free Press reported that the charity received £1,200 funding from the Marlow Round Table and were able to purchase the sheds and pay for painting and decorating work.
