Royal Welsh Farm Buildings and Works Award winners announced

16:07:20 21st July 2010

The winners of the Royal Welsh Farm Buildings and Works Award winners have been announced.

Arnold and Cynthia Evans, along with their sons Dylan, Elystan and Cefyn, were awarded the accolade for the steps they took in improving their milking parlour facilities, the Farmers Guardian reports.

One of the measures taken by the family was the installation of a 44-point rotary parlour within an adjacent portal-framed farm building.

The Evans' then converted the former parlour into a collecting yard, with the pit being employed as a collection tank for slurry, the newspaper said.

According to the judges, the steps taken by the family were effective in creating an efficient and well-thought out unit which has seen milking times reduced by half.

The Tebay family in Bolton have received less positive news than the Evans' after they were denied planning permission to refurbish an old farm building and build other properties on the 20-acre site, the Bolton News.
