Security tips for garden sheds

11:07:20 12th July 2010

Locals in the Halstead area have been warned to keep their garden sheds secure after thefts of belongings worth thousands of pounds.

In just two days, an Ifor Williams trailer and a Husquarna have been stolen from sheds, worth £5,000 between them, the Halstead Gazette reported.

There have been other attempts at break-ins elsewhere, though the criminals did not take anything.

People wanting to keep their garden sheds and equipment safe have been advised by police to take measures such as installing lightweight trellises. Additionally, putting in prickly bushes can help to keep burglars out.

The newspaper reported that in one 24-hour period, garden sheds in Gosfield, Great Henny, Little Henny and Gestingthorpe were all broken into.

Nottinghamshire Police has given advice about keeping garden equipment safe in summer. Garden gear should never be left unattended and valuables in garden sheds ought to be marked with the owner's postcode and house number so they can be tracked and recovered more easily.
