Garden shed 'work of art' on show in Leeds

16:07:20 9th July 2010

A garden shed which has been on display at the Tate Modern is now on show to the public in Leeds.

Called the Drawing Shed, it was devised by Project Space Leeds (PSL) and was selected along with a handful of other installations to be placed in the famous London gallery, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

The garden shed is covered in blackboard paint so as to create a canvas for chalk-using artists to show their creative flair.

Diane Howse, PSL curator, told the newspaper that the installation is an interesting take on art.

"It's the ultimate blank canvas. It's also interesting to think about art in a different way because when we did the installation in London the venue was a museum which existed to preserve paintings, drawings and installations," she said.

One individual's creativity recently saw his garden shed win a national prize.

Reg Miller, from Southend-on-Sea, was awarded the Shed of the Year 2010 accolade for his Lady Sarah Out of Worthing shed, which he had transformed into a pirate ship.
