Farm building conversion complete

18:07:20 2nd July 2010

The conversion of the Grade II-listed High House Farm buildings, which will form part of the new Royal Opera House Production Park, has been completed.

Senior members of the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (TTGDC) together with contractor Carters, were in attendance to see the final chimney pot placed on the roof of the farm buildings, the Thurrock Gazette reports.

The farm buildings are central to the £60 million Royal Opera House project, which will be used as a national centre for the development of performing arts skills and production.

Will McKee, chairman for the TTGDC, told the newspaper that he is pleased the scheme is progressing according to plan and that the completed farm buildings mark a real milestone.

"I always say it is the bricks in the ground that matter and plans are just pieces of paper. It is the community of Thurrock and the surrounding people that are going to use the site," he added.

Features of the production park include a one-acre walled garden and a play space.
