First minister for Wales Carwyn Jones had officially launched a new scheme to improve facilities on Skomer island.
The BBC reports that significant steps have already been taken - including the conversion of farm buildings into visitor accommodation - and that Mr Jones is keen to see further improvements at the bird sanctuary.
There is space for 16 guests, six volunteers and research staff at the renovated farm buildings, which are powered by solar panels and wind turbines.
Mr Jones told the news provider that the work undertaken so far has significantly improved things.
"The sympathetic restoration work carried out as part of this project will only enhance the understanding and enjoyment of visitors to this special part of Wales," he added.
Redundant farm buildings in rural Northumberland were recently converted into a shop and cafe for local people to enjoy, with pupils from Acklington First School the first to sample the produce on offer.
