Gardening fans who have used tools from the garden shed in Aborfield and Barkham have a chance to win some great prizes in a local competition, reports GetReading.

The Aborfield Gardening Association (AGA) has decided to run an open garden competition in its local area to find the best front and back green spaces.

On June 19th a panel consisting of seven members from the Parish Councils, the Neighbourhood Action Group and the AGA will be touring these outdoor spaces.

The panel will also be trying to find the best allotment, community garden, window boxes, hanging baskets and water features.

Jan Heard, chairman of AGA, told the news provider: "I'm absolutely looking forward to it and I hope it encourages good horticulture, sustainability and conservation.

"I hope it helps people improve their gardens."

AGA run a number of gardening events throughout the year including coach trips to public green areas such as Mottisfont Abbey in Hampshire to look at the roses.

Meetings and talks are also held with experts on hand to give residents gardening tips.

Winners will be announced and given prizes in September.
