DIY garden jobs 'will increase in run-up to World Cup'

17:06:20 7th June 2010

The number of consumers undertaking DIY jobs is expected to increase in the run-up to the World Cup, reports Build It Magazine.

Jobs in the garden, which could include renovating a garden shed or preparing a green space for football parties and barbecues, will increase in the next few days.

Anna-Marie DeSouza, deputy editor of the publication, said: "As the World Cup is beckoning, there will probably be a huge rush on to get jobs done and the garden ready for World Cup barbecues and celebrations, so plants, garden furniture and barbecue sales are likely to soar."

She added that DIY jobs previously left unfinished may be picked again by homeowners in order to improve their properties.

According to Halifax Home Insurance men will be spending about £4 billon creating dens or kitting out garden sheds in order to enjoy the football tournament.

Furthermore, at least 1.4 million men already have a den in a converted shed or garage, while another million would consider building one in time for the World Cup which starts on June 11th.
