Final three young garden designers revealed

18:05:20 28th May 2010

The three gardening fans who are still in the running for the Young Garden Design of the Year Award were revealed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show yesterday (May 28th).

Candidates from across England aged 28 or under submitted their designs for a Show Garden which will be created at the RHS Tatton Park Show in July.

Six young gardeners were shortlisted in April and the final three, Hugo Bugg, Olivia Stewart and William Quarmby were given a tour of Chelsea.

They are still in the running for the £12,000 prize from the North West Regional Development Agency and the RHS.

Bob Sweet, member of the judging panel, told Horticulture Week that garden design was becoming increasingly popular with around 200 gardens appearing at RHS Chelsea this year alone.

He said: "We want to be able to harness that, but funding is always a huge problem, how do young designers get the funding to build gardens?"

It is hoped that this award will encourage even more gardening fans to design their own gardens.
