With at least 1.4 million men having a den in a converted garden shed or garage so they can watch sport in peace, Marks and Spencer (M&S) Money urges them to check their content insurance.
As the World Cup Tournament is kicking off in June and Wimbledon is round the corner it is essential for those who intend to kit out their garden sheds with equipment to watch these events to be protected.
Research by M&S Money shows that the average garden contains £721 worth of plants, flowers and trees but two thirds of consumers do not check to see if these items are covered by their insurance.
Andrew Ferguson, M&S head of general insurance, said: "We would urge people to check their home contents policy covers them for garden goods, whether there is a limit to the cover and any other terms and conditions that apply. It is important that goods are stored safely, so that if a claim is necessary, you have peace of mind that it will be valid."
Halifax revealed recently that British men will spend £4 billion transforming garden sheds into dens and buying items such as widescreen TVs and without the correct insurance any burglary would turn into a "costly nightmare".
