Garden shed tools could help 'Reading bloom'

15:05:20 5th May 2010

Reading residents who enjoy gardening are being urged to take part in Reading in Bloom, a local competition rewarding the best looking gardens in the area.

This competition is a forerunner to the national Britain in Bloom event which encourages cities, towns and villages across the country to show off their gardening skills over the summer.

Reading has several categories in its competition such as the best residential front gardens under 12ft, more than 12ft, in communal grounds or even just on a balcony or in a window box.

Businesses and schools are also encouraged to use the tools from the garden sheds with the judging panel, consisting of committee members from Reading in Bloom, searching for the most attractive allotment.

A spokesperson for Reading Borough Council said: "All types of people get involved - and the whole town benefits from the amazing floral displays that pop up all over the place."

Anyone who lives in the borough of Reading can enter and judging will take place in July, with the closing date being July 2nd.

Britain in Bloom, run by the Royal Horticultural Society, is a Europe-wide campaign that works all year round to promote a greener and cleaner country through community gardening.
