Gardening lovers should 'make own compost'

Gardening fans are being encouraged to 'give it a grow' and make compost during compost awareness week from May 2nd to May 8th.
Compost bins can be set up anywhere in the garden and even if these become full, leaves can be stored in the garden shed over the autumn and later put onto the compost heap.
Kitchen and gardening waste can be turned in compost. Such items as tea bags, grass cuttings, rhubarb leaves and plant cuttings are quick to rot and provide nitrogen and moisture.
Recycle Now, the company behind the campaign, wants consumers to compost at home because it is good for the environment and can be carried out in gardening.
A spokesperson said: "However you choose to get involved, there are plenty of new things you can try, which will not only help the environment but also help your garden grow greener."
Compost can be used to enrich flower beds, replenish pots, prevent soil erosion, help trees grow and feed the lawn with nutrients.
