Summerhouse sales are 'blooming'

Garden shed sales have started to bloom as people begin to spend more money on them, reports the Telegraph.

Garden sheds and summer houses can be bought for as little as £150 but retailers are noticing an increase in the sale of models costing £1,000 and more.

The increased demand for summerhouses has led John Lewis to introduce models that cost more than £11,000 and boast double-glazing and brass door fittings.

The DIY store B&Q has also reported an increase in the number of garden sheds priced at over £1,000 being sold.

Gurinder Jellehwallia, a buyer from B&Q, told the news provider: "More and more of us want to reclaim some personal space in our homes so whether we're retreating to our greenhouses, home working from our sheds or playing in our summerhouses this trend looks set to continue."

It has been claimed, by experts such as the Future Foundation, that the growth in garden shed and summerhouse sales has occurred because people want more living space and this is a good way to get it.

Summerhouses can be bought in a range of shapes and styles including cabins and chalets.
