Six young gardeners have been shortlisted by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) for the Young Garden Designer Award 2010 after creating beautiful outdoor spaces with tools from their garden sheds. The industrial buildings and landscape of the north-west was the theme this year with three gardeners using it in their design for a show garden.

Candidates from across England aged 28 and under, submitted their designs for a show garden to be created at the RHS Show Tatton Park in July.

Bob Sweet, a member of the judging panel, said: "We were astounded by the quality of entries to the RHS Young Designer of the Year Competition but the candidates that were shortlisted stood out as demonstrating a professional design concept with a level of planting understanding usually found in more experienced designers."

The best three candidates will be selected to receive £12,000 from the North West Regional Development Agency and the RHS to realise their garden at Tatton.

RHS Show Tatton Park, Cheshire, runs from July 21st to July 25th. At least 45 gardens have been confirmed and the Girl Guides will be celebrating their centenary through gardening at the event.
