Garden sheds transformed by Royal Opera House

Garden sheds have been used to create a sensory area at a special school in Essex, thanks to a partnership with the Royal Opera House.

The BBC reports that funding and expertise was provided for the project through the Royal Opera House Creative Partnerships Programme.

A local artist worked with teachers and students to create the area, which includes two garden sheds that have been decorated.

"We've decorated them in tactile ways so that they're all sensory based and our children can all access them," Lyndsay Richardson, the teacher who led the project, told the news provider.

"It's a case of touch them and you get a reward through sound or light."

The school hopes that it will be able to expand the 'little shed village' through donations of additional garden sheds that can then be donated.

Outdoor buildings are increasingly being used in artistic ways, with one Wales-based artist recently covering a garden shed in sequins for her university degree.
