Glass shed completed in Scotland
Construction of a large glass shed has been completed at the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC), which will allow it to remain at the cusp of teaching, it has been reported.
According to Horticulture Week, the £240,000 glasshouse, which features a controlled interior climate and state-of-the-art teaching facilities, will allow higher education students to take their studies further.
Some 150 students currently specialise in horticulture at the college and this figure is expected to rise as green space and food production comes to be seen as more important by the government.
David McKenzie, vice-principal of the college, told the publication: "The glasshouse was something that we identified as a necessary resource for our horticulture programme.
"We have a long-term strategy of focusing the higher end at King's Buildings and it has now come to fruition."
The SAC aims to support the development of land-based industries in the UK through research, education, training and consulting services.
