Common sense in garden sheds
Gardeners have been urged to take all the necessary precautions when pottering in garden sheds to make sure their health is not at risk.
According to the Telegraph, it is a good idea to wear gloves whenever handling soil, compost or pesticides.
"For fiddly work such as taking cuttings or fine weeding, swap bulky fabric gloves for latex ones or thin, plastic gardening gloves," the newspaper wrote.
It recommended that gardeners wear long-sleeved shirts when pruning plants that could cause skin irritation if contact is made.
"Avoid potting up in confined spaces. Moisten dry potting media before use and consider wearing a dust mask," the Telegraph added.
Earlier this month, gardeners were given more sound advice when the Royal Horticultural Society told the Telegraph that people should check the chemicals stored in their garden sheds following changes to rules on pesticides.
From May 10th, the chemical sodium chlorate - which can be found in certain residual weed killers - is one of a number of substances that will be banned.
