Gardeners have been urged to unpack their garden sheds and get planting Chinese redbuds and Jet Trail's.
According to the Telegraph, these are among the best spring flowering shrubs, along with Halesia Carolina, Exochorda x macrantha and Fothergilla major.
These plants are just beginning to come in their own after what has been a hard winter and gardening enthusiasts may wish to transplant them into their own back yards for a dash of spring colour.
The newspaper also selected Acradenia frankliniae, a medium-sized shrub that prefers damp, well-drained conditions and Ribes odoratum, or buffalo currant's leaves, which has foliage similar to gooseberry plants.
According to the Daily Mail, spring blossoms are only a taste of what is to come this year, as the first snowdrops and tulips begin to appear.
With backyards beginning to stir after an unusually late winter and the weather finally beginning to become more clement, now could be the ideal time for people to unpack their sheds and get gardening.
