Victorian post box stored for years in garden shed

A rare Victorian post box is to go under the hammer after spending the past thirty years in a Derby garden shed, it has been reported.

A surviving relic of Derby County's old Baseball Ground, the post box is currently owned by retired postman Ken Redfern who saved it from the scrapheap after being removed from service, thisisderbyshire.co.uk reports.

Mr Redfern bought it for less than £10, and kept it in his garden shed ever since.

The rare item is expected to be sold for at least £150 when it is put up for auction, the news provider reports.

Mr Redfern said the only reason he was selling it is because he can longer move it around as it is too heavy.

"It's very historic, it even survived the bombing of the Normanton End during the war," he told the news provider.

Steve Iredale, of Bamfords Auctioneers, was reported as stating that post boxes are "very collectable" items, but this was of particular interest as it hails from the Victorian period.
