Eight-legged creatures invade garden sheds
Australian residents have been told to be aware of any poisonous eight-legged friends that may be lurking in their garden sheds.
Redback spiders are making the most of hot and humid conditions in Ipswich by breeding in large numbers, reports the Ipswich Advertiser.
Amalgamated Pest Control operation Troy Mayes told the news provider: "Redback treatments are keeping us very busy at the moment, following high temperatures and humidity which aid the spiders in their mating process.
"They will lay up to ten egg sacs in a lifetime, containing about 250 eggs, which makes them very difficult to treat in high numbers."
Mr Mayes advised resident to inspect areas such as garden sheds, the undersides of children's play equipment, green houses and shoes.
While the Redback spider is not aggressive its bite is extremely poisonous, the Advertiser states, posing serious risks for the young and the elderly.
Common symptoms include pain, sweating, muscular weakness, nausea and vomiting.
