Garden shed used as headquarters for youth club

17:01:20 21st January 2010

A modest garden shed in the West Midlands has been transformed into a youth club for young people in the area.

The Express & Star reports that Julie Rafiq single-handedly started the club after becoming frustrated with the vandalism and anti-social behaviour occurring in her Black Country neighbourhood.

Ms Rafiq told the news provider that the initiative was to simply provide the young people with something to do.

"There are no fields, no youth facilities, nothing around here," said the mother of four.

"I just thought the only way to get through to them was to get involved. They were saying they had nothing to do."

The club has now been running from its garden shed premises for 18 months, reports the Express & Star. It has an ongoing programme of events, including five-a-side football.

Meanwhile in Wales, a garden shed has been used to capture striking images of the Milky Way - much to the amazement of astronomers around the world.
