Garden shed demolition ordered
14:12:20 31st December 2009
Two garden sheds in the New Forest have been ordered to be demolished, the Southern Daily Echo reports today (December 31st).
The timber sheds, which are located next to a historic building in Waterside, were rejected by a planning inspector after a proposal to retain the structures was lodged with New Forest District Council.
Being adjacent to a former school which used to be a golf pavillion for the wealthy De Rosthchild family, the sheds were deemed to have damaged the historic nature of the environment
According to the news provider, the planning inspector's report said: "One of the sheds obscures part of a small colonaded area which is a pleasant feature of the building."
In 2007, protesters demonstrated against a proposal to demolish the 80-year-old building, which was described as the only heritage structure in the area.
Following this, the developer decided to incorporate the former school into its construction plans.
