Scottish garden gets helipad makeover

A garden in a remote community in Scotland has been transformed into an emergency helipad, the Scotsman reports today (December 31st).
Mother and son Margaret and Roddy McKenzie spent £4,000 building the landing area in their back garden, which means that their village of Achiltibuie in Wester Ross can now be served by air ambulances and other emergency helicopters.
Local tradesman assisted in creating the garden helipad, which was constructed by moving turf from the area and replacing it with concrete.
Mrs McKenzie told the news provider: "Everybody here is behind the helipad idea.
"It's a 20-minute journey to the hospital in Inverness by air ambulance, instead of a two-hour journey by road, so it could be a life or death situation.
The village is located 85 miles away from the nearest city of Inverness and 25 miles from the town of Ullapool by road.
