Industrial building may be replaced with large supermarket

An empty industrial building in Walton may be demolished and replaced with a large store.

Supermarket chain Aldi has revealed its plans for the building site, which is currently occupied by a mail order business selling 4x4 parts, in the Sentinel newspaper.

Aldi has indicated that the new supermarket would have retail floor space of 1,125 square metres and an additional 75 parking places at the front.

The site, less than a mile south of Stone town centre, has been unused for nearly two years.

According to The Sentinel, the planning document states: "There is a significant residential catchment as well as employment area within walking distance. The proposal includes a pedestrian crossing, which will facilitate access."

Aldi is a leading global retailer and one of the world’s largest privately owned companies with over 7,500 stores. The first Aldi supermarket opened in the UK in Birmingham, in 1990.
