Council to tackle pigeons in industrial buildings

A council is set to take action over the presence of thousands of pigeons in unused industrial buildings.
Sandwell Council has confirmed the issue will be looked at in 2010 after West Bromwich residents expressed concern over the mess the pigeons create in the streets, the Express & Star reported.
"The council is aware of the problems for the town centre caused by the roosting of pigeons in a number of derelict and unoccupied buildings in the area of the Eastern Gateway," councillor Mahboob Hussain told the newspaper.
The industrial buildings are derelict and are due to be demolished, which could lead the pigeons to seek new homes in the town.
Earlier this month (December 1st) Darren Cooper, new leader of the council, told the borough's residents he was committed to providing "a clean and tidy environment in which to live, work and play".
He revealed that among the measures planned was a 24-hour turnaround on graffiti removal following it being reported and free pest control services.
