The farm building where George Orwell was born is to be renovated and turned into a museum dedicated to the author.
Local authorities in the district of Bihar, India are to rescue the establishment, which has fallen into disrepair.
"The house has been in a bad condition for years," Bihar culture secretary Vivek Singh told AFP. "The government has decided to initiate work to protect it."
It is hoped that the house will become an important tourist destination, bringing revenue to the region and providing an interesting site for Orwell enthusiasts.
Orwell was born Eric Arthur Blair in India in 1903 and returned to Britain the following year.
He is most well-known for books 1984 and Animal Farm but was also an essayist and journalist.
