The Newtownabbey Today reports that police in the area have highlighted the importance of keeping sheds and garages closed and locked when they are not in use.

Colin Audley, a community safety inspector, told the newspaper: "Criminals know we keep goods at home to give out as presents, so by putting in simple crime prevention steps you can make it more difficult for them."

He also suggested that homeowners could help improve the safety of their local communities by showing burglars they are "switched on to crime prevention".

Recently, gardeners were advised by the Daily Telegraph to make sure all of their tools are clean before packing them away in the back of their garden sheds for another year.ADNFCR-2655-ID-19519458-ADNFCR
