Agricultural buildings ībecoming saferī
Industrial and agricultural buildings saw fewer accidents are occuring than during the earlier years, new research indicates.
According to figures from building trade body the Rural and Industrial Design and Building Association (RIDBA), there were 1,268 accidents for every 100,000 workers in the industry this year.
The statistics, published by Farming UK, revealed that this number compared favourably to the 1,569 reported in the previous year and the 2,298 accidents that were recorded in 2006-07.
Whatīs more, RIBDA pointed out that no deaths had taken place in rural agricultural or industrial buildings during that time, a great feat considering the construction industry suffered 2.5 deaths and 254 major injuries for every 100,000 workers in 2008-09.
Tony Hutchinson, secretary of RIBDA, told the website the accident rate has fallen by 24 per cent since last year, following on from a 46 per cent drop the year before.
"This should reassure farmers and clients who have a responsibility under Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations to use a contractor competent in health and safety," he added.
Recently, it was revealed that new industrial buildings are to be created on a former Ministry of Defence site in Wiltshire.
