RHS president to step down
Giles Coode-Adams has announced that he will be standing down as the president of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) next year, having served on the council of the organisation since 2002.
The RHS will select a new president at its annual general meeting in July 2010.
Having become treasurer of the RHS in 2006, he was then appointed to be its chairman in December 2008, also serving on the Gardens Advisory Committee.
Following a career in investment banking, he headed up Kew Gardens“ foundation before joining the RHS.
The society has asked landscape architect Elizabeth Banks to apply for the vacant chairmanship.
Mr Coode-Adams said: "It has been a pleasure to serve the RHS over the past eight years.
"It has been a very rewarding role, working with wonderful people who do an amazing job to help millions of people benefit from the very best in horticulture."
As well as organising the annual Chelsea Flower Show, the RHS operates four gardens, including at Wisley in Surrey.
