Festive camels to appear at garden centre

A garden centre in Cornwall has spurned the traditional animal of choice this Christmas by recruiting camels over the festive season instead of reindeers, the Daily Telegraph reports today

Trelawney Garden Centre believes having an unusual animal on show could help bring in festive shoppers in search of a tree or bargain plants.

Shortcut to Diamond Garden Sheds Marketing manager at the garden centre Kevin Roberts told the news provider: "We wanted something a bit different from reindeers this year - lots of garden centres have them now.

"Our theme is the Spirit of Christmas - we wanted a back-to-basics Christmas because of the credit crunch."

Wildlife and gardening often go hand in hand, and many gardeners choose to encourage animals by leaving wild areas and space underneath their garden sheds.

Earlier this week, the newspaper reported that this year has been good for butterflies, bees and moths in gardens but not for frogs, toads and hedgehogs.
