Student “joke“ wins garden show place

An entry has won a place at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show next year despite being entered as a “joke“ by students, the Scotsman reports.

The group, who are studying garden design at the Scottish Agricultural College, will travel to London next May to make their design a reality.

Chosen in the show“s courtyard category, their design is a modern-day croft featuring a modern take on the traditional Scottish Shortcut to Capital Steel Buildings Shortcut to Capital Steel Farm Buildings agricultural building.

One of the twelve-strong group, Amber Goudy, told the news provider that it was her idea, but started out as a joke: "When the show was on last year, we were talking about how good it would be to go down.

"I said we should just enter ourselves, clearly joking, but the idea stuck and a couple of weeks later I went back to everyone and said why don“t we just go for it."

The Chelsea Flower Show, one of the highlights of the gardening year, is organised annually by the Royal Horticultural Society.
