Garden sheds to be given free to residents

A town in Canada is set to buy garden sheds for residents in state-supported housing, reports the Beacon Herald newspaper.

Officials in Stratford, Ontario are spending $136,000 (£76,473) on purchasing timber sheds which will provide storage for items such as lawnmowers and bicycles.

The move was backed primarily by the town council´s social services director Bill Tigert, who persuaded a council committee that the spending would be worthwhile.

It follows concern from some residents about people storing equipment outdoors, and will help improve the quality of social housing in the town, which is located near the shores of Lake Huron.

It will also help improve the quality of life for residents, who will be able to get more out of their gardens by having the new sheds.

Recently it emerged that in Australia a man and his family had been living in a shed for more than three years.
