Philip Nixon unveils new urban garden
Designer Philip Nixon has created a contemporary city garden on the site of a former electricity sub station in Kensington and Chelsea, the Daily Telegraph reported yesterday (November 5th).
The design features a stream hemmed in by black granite, special walls which bathe the garden in light at night and a fireplace, creating a feel of ´outdoor living´.
Having previously worked in the City, Nixon began his career volunteering at Chelsea Physic Garden before studying garden design at London´s Inchbald School of Design. He has since been awarded prestigious gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show.
As well as spaces for plants, the garden has three pools linked by the stream and a range of brightly-coloured plants.
It also includes a summer house built of hardwood to create a living space.
Nixon hopes his design will draw people outdoors, and told the Daily Telegraph that "People are often not attracted out into their gardens, they show it off from inside the house."
Philip Nixon´s design studio has previously created gardens in a range of locations across London and the south east including hotels, public spaces and show gardens for events.
