Care home garden transformation rewarded
A Dumfries care home has received a prestigious award for its garden in the Barchester in Bloom national gardening competition, with celebrity gardener Charlie Dimmock presenting the trophy.
Lochduhar Care Home was among 58 finalists in the competition, with the ceremony being held at London´s prestigious Hurlingham Club, The Dumfries and Galloway Standard reported yesterday (October 21st).
The awards are for imaginative gardening at care homes, and Lochduhar´s garden includes sensory and musical areas.
It was created by staff, residents and relatives at the home, who devoted time and effort to transform a plain area into a colourful and lively space.
Staff, residents and relatives devoted their own time to transform a plain garden area within the Memory Lane dementia unit into a colourful, well used haven.
Lochduhar provides specialist help for people with dementia or physical disabilities, and is located on the outskirts of the town in Scotland´s southern uplands.
Wendy Carruthers, manager of the care home, told the newspaper: "It was a fantastic day. Our staff and residents have worked hard designing, planting and nurturing our garden and I am so pleased that we were able to make it to the finals!"
